FAHL Luncheon Talk: The Art and Science of Transformation — Celebrating Maria Sibylla Merian in MN

Join us for an engaging luncheon talk exploring the extraordinary life and legacy of Maria Sibylla Merian—artist, naturalist, and pioneer in the study of metamorphosis. Discover how her groundbreaking observations and exquisite illustrations reshaped scientific understanding and continue to inspire artists and authors today, including right here in Minnesota.

This special event is presented in conjunction with a collaborative exhibit featuring the Andersen Horticultural Library, ceramic artist Katharine Eksuzian, Joyce Sidman (author of The Girl Who Drew Butterflies), and Kim Todd (author of Chrysalis: Maria Sibylla Merian and the Secrets of Metamorphosis). The exhibit is curated in partnership with Eksuzian, Sidman, and Todd, celebrating the enduring impact of Merian’s work across disciplines.
 
Lunch buffet includes: BBQ Picnic Buffet catered by Rootstock - BBQ Pulled Pork (GF), Buns (V), BBQ Roasted Cauliflower Florets (Vg, GF), Baked Beans (Vg, GF), Mac and Cheese (V), Vinegar Coleslaw (Vg, GF), Fruit Salad (Vg, GF), Cornbread (V), desserts and beverages.
 
 
The Andersen Horticultural Library will be open following the presentations for attendees to view the exhibit on Monday from 3:00-4:00 pm, with Merian's Insects of Europe rare book on display.
 

 

Cancellation Policy
You may cancel and receive a refund minus a $5 cancellation fee if we are contacted prior to August 29th. After August 29th there will be no refunds. Please call or email the Education Office to cancel your reservation.
