Available only to those who have completed a New Volunteer Orientation and necessary paperwork. This package is for a background check and a new volunteer processing fee. Within one week of purchase, a link to complete the background check process online will be sent to you via email. If you prefer to fill out a paper form and mail it in, one will be provided at your request. Once the background check has been completed, we will provide a name tag at no charge to you. Please allow up to 2 weeks after submitting the background check for your name tag to arrive in the mail. If you have questions please contact the Volunteer Center at arbvol@umn.edu or 612-301-1203.

Field Fest

 

Celebrate the harvest season and Minnesota farmers at this annual family-friendly festival held at the Farm at the Arb. The event features hands-on harvesting of sugar beets, corn and potatoes; a beer garden and food trucks; and live entertainment and activities for all ages. This event is included with Arboretum general daily admission; advance registration is required.


  • Learn directly from Minnesota food growers and producers while exploring interactive exhibits, games and hands-on activities in the KWS Family Tent

  • Tour the crop plots and orchards

  • Help harvest Minnesota crops and enter the beet-weighing contest then take home a bag of Crystal Sugar!

  • Make bouquets with flowers you can grow at home and learn about the cut-flower industry

  • Stop by a tasting in the Myers Education Center Kitchen Classroom

  • New this year, the event will feature a special celebrity baking showcase and book signing with pastry chef and cookbook author Zoë François

Fall Color Trail Run/Hike 1K/5K/10K

 

The Fall Color Trail Run is a self-guided adventure taking place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Choose the date that works best for you, your family, and your friends to enjoy the beautiful trails at your own pace.

On the day of your selected run, check in any time between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and choose your preferred distance.


Maps and directions will be provided at check-in.

Food Preservation Consultant Course for Master Gardeners

 

The Food Preservation Consultant Training for Master Gardener Volunteers is a self-paced online Canvas course to teach you how to safely and confidently process produce using resources from the University of Minnesota Extension. The course includes teaching materials to help you share food preservation with your community. The course has nine modules and will take 15 to 20 hours to complete.
 
Registration is $20. If you took the previous version of the course (before 2025), you will be required to complete the updated version of the course to maintain your Food Preservation Consultant status. If you have previously registered for or completed this course, please email wagn1400@umn.edu to gain access.

Join us for an engaging luncheon talk exploring the extraordinary life and legacy of Maria Sibylla Merian—artist, naturalist, and pioneer in the study of metamorphosis. Discover how her groundbreaking observations and exquisite illustrations reshaped scientific understanding and continue to inspire artists and authors today, including right here in Minnesota.

This special event is presented in conjunction with a collaborative exhibit featuring the Andersen Horticultural Library, ceramic artist Katharine Eksuzian, Joyce Sidman (author of The Girl Who Drew Butterflies), and Kim Todd (author of Chrysalis: Maria Sibylla Merian and the Secrets of Metamorphosis). The exhibit is curated in partnership with Eksuzian, Sidman, and Todd, celebrating the enduring impact of Merian’s work across disciplines.
 
Lunch buffet includes: BBQ Picnic Buffet catered by Rootstock - BBQ Pulled Pork (GF), Buns (V), BBQ Roasted Cauliflower Florets (Vg, GF), Baked Beans (Vg, GF), Mac and Cheese (V), Vinegar Coleslaw (Vg, GF), Fruit Salad (Vg, GF), Cornbread (V), desserts and beverages.
